Replacing Hydraulic Fittings Damaged By Rats: Some Important Tips

Despite being among the most damaging pests on the field, especially when it comes to the crops, not a lot of farm owners realise that rats and mice can damage even their hulking farm equipment, like tractors and combines. How, you ask? Aren’t those machines made of incredibly strong materials which are impervious to rodents? Not exactly, as it turns out. As part of their natural behaviour, rats and mice gnaw in order to wear their teeth down (their teeth never stop growing throughout their lifetimes, so they need to keep things check by gnawing). Stored machinery provides a ton of opportunities for this habit, with their masses of electrical cables, control, panels, cab fittings, and even sturdy hydraulic components. All this gnawing equates to thousands of pounds worth of damage to farm machinery each year, which significantly hampers production.
